You know what that means! Another Windowshop Wednesday with Katie!
This week we will be shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond. I love this store because they always have neat gadgets and pretty much anything you could possibly need to stock your kitchen.
Today we'll start in the bathroom and my first item I've actually already bought:
The Rainspa Combo Showerhead - I am seriously loving this thing. It may be cheap and there are better models out there but I am loving this thing. Now the H and I can take a shower together without one of us freezing our bum off.
Next on the list is this bath mat
Our current mat is getting pretty ratty and I've been lusting after this one for awhile now. Maybe once our mat finally bites the dust aka gets ripped up we'll replace it with this one.
Lets move into the kitchen now:
I'm really liking the look of these trivets
I love to bake so I could really use these cooling racks
I need this food processor - no good reason why I just do : )
I could go on and on here but I better stop now. Join me again next week for another Windowshop Wednesday!

I Must by Crazy..
Because I am currently training for a 5K run in February. I, along with many of my close girlfriends, plan to run the Disney Princess half-marathon. I'm starting out slow and am shooting for the 5K for now. I think that's a reasonable goal so I started the Couch to 5K program yesterday and OMG my legs feel like they're going to fall off. But I'm committed to seeing this thing through so I'm going to keep pressing on. I'm hoping that by the time I register for this thing I'll be able to do the half-marathon but that goal is pretty daunting right now.
So the preparation for this thing is to first get myself running regularly. Like I said I started Couch to 5K yesterday and while it was tough for me I feel confident that I'll be able to do this. My husband is also doing this with me so we'll be able to keep each other accountable - we want to be healthier and get into better shape so doing things together makes that so much easier. I am also wanting to start eating a bit healthier so I went out and bought a new cookbook and I am salivating over the recipes I've thumbed through so far.
I'm pretty excited about this and I hope I can keep up this level of excitement to motivate myself to keep going forward. I'm going to try to log my progress here and keep up with how far I'm running each day. This is going to be one more way to keep myself accountable : )
So my first update here will be my run from yesterday - I used the treadmill since it is hot as balls outside right now and it was close to noon before we were able to get up and actually run.
Time spent running/walking: 25:00 minutes
Distance traveled: 1.5 miles
Tomorrow will be week 1 day 2 of C25K and I'll post another update then. Help keep me accountable! I can do this!!

Cloth Diaper Review: Prefolds and Covers
Alright so as promised here is my first review of my cloth diapers!
We struggled with finding an option for Faye's newborn stage since we wanted to minimize the amount of time we used disposables. After doing some research I stumbled upon prefolds and diaper covers and it seemed like the best option to get us through until she started fitting into her one size pocket diapers. I bought 2 dozen diapers and 6 covers and this has served us pretty well and we haven't had a day where we ran out of diapers to use.
My impression: Shoot me. I *hate* these things and if I could do it over again I'd find something else. Some moms really love this system and that's great for them but these things make me want to rip my hair out some days. They seem simple enough - do a quick fold and wrap your baby up in it with a snappie and then throw a cover over the whole thing. That's all well and good until you factor in a wiggly baby who hates diaper changes. Seriously, you'd think that changing a diaper was a form of torture with the way Faye goes on about it.
We use the Bummi's premie size prefolds which works well for little babies like Faye. We have two different types of covers - four are Bummi's and the other two are Thirsties. The Bummi's newborn size covers are the perfect size for small baby like Faye and they fit really well. The Thirsties XS size on the other hand was a lot bigger than I anticipated and didn't really fit right until recently but now when I have to pull a prefold out it's the cover I reach for because the others are getting a little too tight around her legs.
Pros: Cheap option to start out with, best fit for a newborn
Cons: Pain in the a** to use on a wiggly baby, takes longer to change especially in the middle of the night.
Overall: These are okay and if I was in a bind financially this is what we'd use exclusively.

Why We Use Cloth
My husband and I decided while I was pregnant that we would use cloth diapers for Faye for a few reasons.
1.) Cost - Despite the initial start-up cost we would save a ton of money. The average spent on diapers for a baby in their first 2 years of life is around $1600 - that's a lot of dough to just throw away. I haven't added it up personally but I wager I've spent less than $500 on diapers. I have some on order now to finish out my stash but after that I don't expect to need to buy any more and I'll be able to use them until Faye is out of diapers. So $500 or $1600? What do YOU think?
2.) Health - When you start thinking about what is in a disposable you quickly realize how utterly gross and scary it is to put that up against your baby's skin. There are so many chemicals in disposables that the more I thought about it the more uncomfortable I was with putting it on my little lady's lady bits. I also read about severe diaper rash and chemical burns connected with a certain disposable brand after they 'improved' their diapers. With cloth diapers I know exactly what is going next to my daughters skin everyday and I don't have to worry if my chosen brand has decided to change something that could have a negative effect on her skin. Also diaper rashes are much less likely with cloth diapers and thus far Faye has only had 1 rash and that was while we were using disposables in her first 2 weeks of life.
3.) Cute factor - let's face it there is nothing more adorable than a fluffy bottom. There are so many options out there and I have seen a number of diapers that I want to buy based on cuteness alone.
I'm really glad that we decided to use cloth and that Mark is on board with it. Of course Mark is cool with pretty much anything I want to do as long as it saves us money.
As I get more experience using a particular brand of diaper I will post reviews and if I recommend them or not. Stay tuned for my first review: Prefolds and diaper covers.
